Our team is also maybo trained.
MI Best life also is currently participating in the NZAP Pilot Project, in conjunction with GCYS and the Gold Coast Youth Service. The New Zealand Accommodation Pilot (NZAP) is an opportunity to provide an immediate accommodation response for New Zealand young people with an unprotected Special Category Visa that are experiencing homeless, not eligible for income support and social housing. The Street CRED Assertive outreach team have identified a high number of young people in this situation that are experiencing homelessness and sleeping rough.
This situation is the result of changes to the Trans-Tasman agreement that has created systemic barriers for some young people to access supports. Statistics indicate that the need is rising and services report that there is very little that they can do or its extremely challenging to provide support. This is supported by the Street CRED Assertive outreach team who have identified a high number of young people sleeping rough with an unprotected Special Category Visa.
Gold Coast Youth Service, and MI Best Life have partnered to develop and implement an innovative housing and support solution, the New Zealand Accommodation Project (NZAP). We hope to be able to provide young people on an unprotected Special Category Visa improved life opportunities and quality of life. The NZAP will have a research component to demonstrate the current need, impact of project on people’s lives and cost efficiency on the service system. The project aims to demonstrated that an investment in housing is a significant cost saver compared to the costs of people being homeless and due to their circumstances engaging in the criminal justice system.
